Maybe you’ve already heard the adorable term basic b*tches. It’s used to describe young women who embrace common, mainstream things such as pumpkin-spiced lattes, Juicy Couture and “Sex and the City” marathons. Like sheep, a basic goes with the pack and does not try to look, think, or act any differently than her squad.

One item that is deemed extremely basic: Ugg boots. These boots are also reviled for being incredibly unattractive. But guess what? I love them. And so do many of my fellow hockey moms. And I will never give them up, because

1. They keep me warm. Hockey moms know that if you are sitting in a hockey rink for a good amount of time, you’re going to be cold. You need a tried-and-true BASIC item that will keep your feet warm from August through April. Trust me, when you’re used to being cold, the only thing you really care about is keeping warm.
2. They are part of my uniform. Because they keep me warm, they have become part of my hockey mom equipment. When it’s time to go to the rink, I suit up in my uniform. You need a no-brainer like Ugg boots because your brain is already maxed out from synchronizing your family’s schedule.
3. They are convenient. Did you go to a tournament and forget to pack your Uggs? Getting your hands on a new pair is as easy as locating the nearest shopping mall. I’m sure you have time to kill anyway.

If wearing Ugg boots makes me a basic b*tch, so be it. But I promise you this: if you can’t handle a basic b*tch, you certainly can not handle even your most basic hockey mom.
